Prasat Cave 1-day
Operated by : Vieng Phoukha Ecoguide Association

Vieng Phoukha District, Luang Namtha Province
In cooperation with the LNTA-ADB Mekong Tourism Development Project

Hmong villagers in Vieng Phoukha District of Luang Namtha

Morning - Journey to the cave

Depart at 8:30 in the morning from the Eco-Guide Service office by pick-up or tractor (tak-tak) and travel on a dirt road into the countryside of Vieng Phoukha. Arrive at Ban Ta Louang, a traditional Hmong village, where we meet our village-based guide. From Ban Ta Louang we set out by foot into the mountains and dense jungle where we learn about traditional Hmong hunting techniques (famous in Laos) and collection of forest products.

Lunch - Hosted by the villagers

We arrive at the mouth of the cave where we are hosted by the villagers of Ta Louang village for a local Hmong meal.

Afternoon - Cave Exploration

We take the afternoon to explore the caves, five in total. The caves are known for their unique features including large numbers of bats, unbelievable limestone formations, and crevices that seem to be endless. Each cave is very different. The pick-up (or tak-tak) is met at the point where we entered the forest. Return to town is in the late afternoon.
