Take a ‘Fair Trek” in Luang Prabang
“Fair Trek” is a Luang Prabang based initiative between villages, the government, local tour operators and NGO’s. It supports local employment, environmental protection, and aims to maximize the positive impacts of tourism on participating communities. A Fair Trek Village Fund has been set up to help with local reforestation efforts and allow families that are not participating in tourism activities to benefit from visitation of their communities. Discover Vieng Phoukha
If you will enter or exit Laos up north in Bokeo Province’s Ban Houey Xay, plan to stop for a few days in Vieng Phoukha, located about half-way between Luang Namtha and Bokeo. The Vieng Phoukha Ecoguides operate a couple of great 2-3 day treks, and you can also explore the Nam Eng or Phou Prasat Caves. Stop in the Information Center at the “Bor Kung” spring for information and to hire a local guide.
